12 Month Check Up

Mommy and Daddy took Grady in for his 12 month check-up last Friday. We are both so happy we have decided to take Grady to Ashburn Pediatrics, we love them and really do feel like he is getting the best care possible. Plus none of the doctor’s ask us if he is in daycare and if Mommy works, unlike the last doctor we went to. Mommy was very grateful that Daddy went with her so he could hold Grady while he got 4 shots – poor baby! It never gets easy to hear them cry! Grady is 30 inches long – in the 50th percentile for height; weighs 20 lbs 3 oz – which puts him in the 25th percentile, but his head is tiny – only in the 10th percentile. However, he seems to be following his growth curve and we know that he is happy and healthy.

I mentioned that we would know more about Grady’s blocked tear ducts around his first birthday. Well we went back to the Pediatric Ophthalmologist and she confirmed that we would need to proceed with surgery. Grady’s eyes, especially his left, are just not getting any better and we are worried about the infections he keeps getting. Plus he is on antibiotic eye ointments all the time. We have set his surgery day for Friday, September 21st, and would appreciate as many prayers as possible. Both the ophthalmologist and our pediatrician stress that this is a very routine procedure; still it's never easy to know that your child has to have surgery.

In other news, my baby is getting so big now! He now naps on a cot at daycare, instead of a crib! Apparently a couple days before his first birthday, Ms. Shannon told us that Grady woke up from his nap and decided to snuggle in next to Hadley on her cot. Ms. Shannon said it was the cutest thing and she said that he is definitely ready for the “big-boy” cot. We are also done with bottles in this household, Mommy packed them all up, put them away, and Grady is only drinking from sippy cups.

Grady is the most sociable, happy little baby, and even his nickname at daycare is "Smiley". He loves being around other kids and even has teachers fighting over who will get him when he bumps up to the next class at daycare (which won't happen for 6 to 8 more months). He does seem to be fearless and loves all dogs. In fact, we went over to a friends house recently and thought their black lab might scare him, as he's only really been around our little Buddy. Not a chance! Grady loved the lab, even when he was getting knocked over by her tail! He has definitely entered the toddler years as he is testing our boundaries more and more. We find ourselves having to really get serious on this baby-proofing business and have started to say the word, "no" at least a dozen times a day it feels like.

Grady, Mommy and Daddy love you so much! You are the best thing that has ever happened to us and we couldn't imagine our lives without you in it!
